Q&A

Q: Do we need to manage users or are accounts created automatically?

A: Accounts are created automatically when a user accesses EON-XR through LTI. Users are granted a license for 24 hours, and every time that user accesses EON-XR through LTI the license is granted for another 24 hours. Upon expiration, the license will be available for use by another account, but no user data or content will be deleted. To delete a user, you will need to manually delete the account within EON-XR.

Q: How do we remove a users access to EON-XR?

A: Removing access to EON-XR must be done in your LMS, as long as the user has access to the external tool (EON-XR) through LTI, they will be able to access EON-XR. In other words, when a user loses access to the course containing the LTI assignment, they lose access to EON-XR unless their account is activated on EON-XR by an admin.

Q: What is the difference between LTI 1.1 and LTI Advantage (1.3)

A: LTI 1.1 uses the OAuth 1.0 standard that relies on a consumer key and secret to authenticate users. LTI 1.3 uses the OAuth 2.0 standard that is more secure and widely used, in fact google sign-in/apple sign-in use the same security protocol. LTI Advantage, which is built upon LTI 1.3, also adds new features like grade reporting and deep linking.

Q: How long is user information retained?

A: Grades are reported to the grade services endpoint of your LMS if that feature is enabled and available. Grade information is saved indefinitely, if a user is deleted it may become impossible to associate the grade data with that user. User data such as name and email address is retained until the account is deleted on EON-XR, this can be done via EON-XR Admin > User Management

Q: How do I create an LTI 1.3 Integration and what do I need?

A: Typically you must have site admin level access on your LMS to add an external tool. Within EON-XR you must have ‘Modify LTI’ permission to add a platform. Lead admin is granted this permission by default and this can be added to other user accounts as desired. If you have the required permissions, you will be able to access the ‘Admin’ section on EON-XR. Refer to the ‘Setup’ instructions for more detail.

Q: I accessed EON-XR through LTI and the account is different than my existing account, why?

A: Your LMS will send user information, if enabled, that allows EON-XR to create or login an account based on the email address provided. If you do not share email with EON-XR an account will be generated with the user Id and issuer hostname as the username. If the email provided by your LMS is different than the email of the existing account on EON-XR, a new account will be created, and it will not be associated.
